Marko is an audio perfectionist. His ProTools rig is, both in terms of hardware and software, state of the art, while his listening room is comfortable and inviting (ask for the blueberry muffins!). Marko will listen to the Client’s Requirements, and craft the sound of the project until it is exactly what they want. Working with Marko on a project is always a blast. He’s a mensch with ears of gold.
My experience at Marko’s studio couldn’t have gone any better! Being new to the music business and never stepping foot in a recording studio I was rather intimidated. Marko was professional and made it so much fun. With his experience, humor and helpful advice we walked away with some excellent recordings! The studio was beautiful and comfortable. I look forward to doing business with Marko again.
Marko Freedman’s studio is the best recording experience I’ve had and cannot imagine a better scene for what can be very frustrating sessions. He is a musician’s musician so he understands the nuances of performance and the art of the finished work. He is patient and able to help the recording musician get into and maximize the performance. He is excellent at accommodating artistic expression and has a vast understanding and appreciation for multiple genres of music. He is also quickly able to connect to the soul of the singer and help find the spirit of the song and can offer options or parts and progressions should the musician be open to that. He created parts I didn’t know I needed and my songs would be lacking without. His studio equipment is state of the art with many options for control and tech. The environment of his studio offers a uniquely relaxing experience. Any musician of any genre would do themselves a great favor to hire Marko Freedman for their studio recording projects.
I recorded my second solo album, “Back to Work?” at Labrador Sound Studios with Marko Freedman as engineer/co-producer and afterwards I was wishing I’d recorded my first album there too. Everything about the studio was right and working with Marko was the easiest thing in the world.
The fact that the studio is surrounded by woodland, I found made for an atmosphere very conducive to creativity. No distractions from outside interference led to excellent concentration levels and a very productive work environment.
Marko understood exactly what I needed from the word go and provided me with the sound I had in my head without me needing to ask. His knowledge of sound and how to apply it to my specific needs meant that all I had to do was relax and concentrate on my playing which is exactly what you need if you’re going to get the best out of yourself.
His knowledge of Irish music at the time was limited but he seemed to know instinctively what the music required and created a sonic environment that allowed the music to breathe and come alive.
I would have absolutely no hesitation at all in recommending Marko and Labrador Sound Studios for recording, regardless of the music genre, and I look forward to working with him there again in the future.
I am the saxophonist for a jazz/funk quintet and my band, Bluedog has recorded two projects at Labrador Sound Studios. We were immediately made to feel at ease and Marko Freedman runs a very professional operation. We never felt rushed or stressed as Marko and his crew create a very relaxed environment in what would normally be a high stress situation. Marko and his team listened to our suggestions and there was creative give-and-take, which improved the final product. Marko guided us through the whole process without a hitch. The sound quality was excellent and at this point, I would only record at Labrador Sound Studios for future projects.
For over the past decade, I’ve had the pleasure of working with sound engineer Marko Freedman. Since our work together on the feature length documentary “Raising Matty Christian”, and the docuseries “Slatersville: America’s First Mill Village,” I have witnessed his push for perfection in his studio. He hears details I would otherwise not, always works diligently to improve them, offers new ideas, and ultimately makes my films sound better than I ever thought they could. Marko generates a collaborative spirit with solid communication in a positive working environment that enables everyone to do their absolute best. When you listen to the before-and-after to compare, the differences in quality are deeply clear. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him thoroughly on my films, and I count myself lucky that I’m still able to continue doing so today.
When Critical Mass was trying to gain traction in the local clubs, we decided it would be a good idea to put together a promotional 5 song demo that we could give to the venues to hear what we sounded like since we were a new band and relatively unknown to the local places. I had known Marko from Labrador Sound Studios for many years and decided to reach out regarding our demo. It turned out to be a fantastic decision and an amazing experience.
The recording studio was beautiful with a great ambience and top of the line recording equipment. Some of the band were very new to the process, and Marko’s knowledge of the recording process and tools, along with infinite patience made the whole process just a very positive experience for us. He listened to us when we told him what we wanted, offered valuable advice and helped us to achieve a product even better than what we had hoped for. He worked within our budget to deliver a very professional sounding product and I could not recommend Labrador Sound Studios highly enough, just an excellent experience for the band!

The studio is an intimate space which facilitates visual communication among the musicians. Marko is meticulous at positioning musicians and setting up their mics. The recording equipment is top-notch. Marko is a superb audio engineer, from doing the recording, through mixing and mastering. In addition, he is a professional guitarist and singer, which enhances his engineering skills. I have played with Marko in several funk and soul bands, and we have recorded demos that have impressed other musicians with their high quality.
No matter what the genre of music, you will be pleased with the results you get from using Labrador Sound Studios. I highly recommend it …..5 stars!
